Disabled persons

Disabled visitors may enter the gardens through the archway at the left end of the palace façade or from the Annalena entrance in via Romana, no.39.
Because of the steepness of the paths parts of the gardens are not easily accessible to persons in wheelchairs.

PALAZZO PITTI
From the square, steep smooth slope up to entrance. Assistance necessary for manual wheelchair users. No steps to enter the internal courtyard of the building in which the lifts are located (to the left of the staircase). Straightforward route to the portico on the right – in which the ticket office is located (access to the portico via a step of about 9cm and to enter the ticket office there is a bump about 1cm high and one of about 2cm at the exit). In the right hand wing of the building are the Palatina gallery and the Royal appartments (first floor) – the Modern Art gallery – the Costume gallery (second floor) and the Historical Archives (third floor), accessible via two lifts (doors 90cm wide) which are found on either side of the courtyard. The left hand wing of the Palazzo houses two further galleries . The Silver museum and the Porcelain museum. In the internal courtyard, on the right after the café, is a disabled toilet. For the key, ask either at the entrance to the Boboli gardens, at the porter's desk or at the bookshop.

BOBOLI GARDENS
The garden is practicable with assistance, taking into account certain precautions in order to make the route smoother. The paths are all earth or gravel and are mostly on a slope.
Access is through the exit (on the left hand side of the courtyard, before the bookshop) and then, by following the paths curving uphill, to the base of the gardens, and then turning right, one arrives at the first terrace of the amphitheatre. On this side, there is also a disabled toilet, accessed via a stairlift (69x80cm – ask any member of staff in the building/the porter's lodge/bookshop at the base of the garden to use it – capacity not indicated).
Following the lateral paths uphill we come to the second terrace, with its large central pond (beyond this, further to the side, is the Porcelain Museum / not accessible). It is possible to continue on the path along the left hand side – first on flat ground and then downhill along wider paths – to the large pond with Neptune, in the lower part of the garden, towards the Porta Romana exit.
To get to the pond from the side path there is a rounded step of about 6cm which can be climbed up and down with assistance.
The exit near the square of Porta Romana is accessible whereas the one along Via Romana is not as this passes through a building with internal and external steps. It is also possible to return to the Palazzo along the lemon house and hothouses, however it is uphill and the path is earth and gravel, although fairly flattened.
